About SSYC
The Singing Sensations Youth Choir was founded with the expectation of exposing youth in the Baltimore Metropolitan area to the diverse and multifaceted aspects of the performing arts. We provide a myriad of performing opportunities to students, ages 5-18, exposing them to other people, cultures and musical experiences in Maryland and throughout the country.
We support the belief that all youth deserve the right to thrive in and be empowered by the arts. We are committed to helping children master skills and experience the joy of performing with artistry, and developing the self-discipline and confidence that will ultimately enhance many areas throughout their lives. Without the Singing Sensations Youth Choir, most of the children we service would not have the opportunity to travel outside of their neighborhoods and surrounding communities.
We are not simply a gospel choir. Our repertoire consists of choral, patriotic and pop music, spirituals, show tunes, children and freedom songs, Motown, as well as songs in different languages. Our choir has had the awesome opportunity to sing in numerous places as far north as Canada and as far south as Trinidad.

Dr. Hollie Hood-Mincey, Director
Dr. Hollie Hood-Mincey is the founder and director. She is a vocal music instructor in the Baltimore City School System who has worked over twenty-five years in the field of education - eight of them as a principal - and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in the areas of education and music.
Patrick Brown, Assistant Director
Mr. Patrick Brown is the assistant director. He taught elementary school for eleven years in the West Windsor Regional School District in Princeton Junction, NJ and has a diverse musical background as a musician, songwriter, clinician and vocal director.
Howard "Buddy" Lakins, Musician
Mr. “Buddy” Lakins is known throughout the country as an inspiring, highly skillful and accomplished musician. His music and creativity adds an unmatched quality to the choir.
